This is a rare set neck Gallan SG... it's been modified by the previous Japanese owner and looks absolutely killer. We have just sold this through Guitarstreet and I wanted to make a quick video.
Anyone searching Gallan... well, there's not much information.
Gallan was a Japanese brand made by Japan by Kyowa between 60s-80s. I can only estimate, but I would say this one is late 70s.
First thing you'll notice is the lack of a pickguard. the holes have been filled and blacked out. The cream plastics are a really unique choice and work really well.
Pickups aren't standard. The bridge pickup was a match to the Zebra hex, but had snapped legs (previous owner had bent them back to fit the cavity). I've swapped to the a black HB that you see there. It was sourced from a 1980s Japanese super strat and has a really nice, tone.
Pickup cavities and rear control cavity are shielded and the harness is a 50s style with braided wiring and orange drop caps. The 500k pots are mini pots... there are some really smashing tones in this guitar.
Tuners are Wilkinson. I swapped in a bridge and tailpiece sourced from a Mavis (Ishibashi home brand)
This old girl is in beautiful condition for its age. The finish is pretty much blemish free - aside from the holes filled and the is a ripple (which would have been under a pickguard) and a small bit of bucke rash on the back) Frets are at abotu 70%. I gave them a quick crown and polish. The neck is really nice. It's a wide fretboard but a reasnably slim profile.
This feels bigger than the SGs I have played. Definitely bigger than my Gibson and my Greco. It weighs just on 3kg.
