The grandfather paradox was first described by the French science fiction writer René Barjavel in his 1943 novel "Le Voyageur Imprudent" (translated as "The Imprudent Traveller" or "Future Times Three").
The paradox explores the logical inconsistency that arises if a person travels back in time and kills their own grandfather before their parent is conceived, which would prevent the time traveler from being born and thus prevent the act of killing the grandfather.
