Circumduction is a body movement term in anatomy that blends the motion of flexion, abduction, extension, and adduction to create a circular movement in a structure.

Circumduction can generally occur at the joints that allow for the movements of flexion, abduction, extension, and adduction. Some examples of joints that allow circumduction include the following:
-Circumduction of the hip joint (thigh)
-Circumduction of the shoulder joint (arm)
-Circumduction of the wrist joint (hand)
-Circumduction of the thumb
-Circumduction of the fingers
-Circumduction of the ankle joint (foot)
-Circumduction of the toes

Circumduction is a term used by nurses and other healthcare professionals during documentation, assessments, and so forth. Circumduction exercises can be uses to assess joint mobility or to help strengthen a joint after an injury.
