In this Coffee with the Editor, brought to you by the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) - Freddie Kgomari, Head Safety Management at the RSR, discusses the review process of the current Safety Management System (SMS) Determination. Freddie provides an outline of the history and purpose of the Determination, whilst highlighting why the RSR is reviewing the process. Keeping in mind the dynamic nature of railway operations and the changes especially in technology since 2018, as well as the implementation of 3rd party operators – now is the best time to undertake the review process.
