The Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight also known as the “Phrog”, manufactured by Vertol Aircraft Corp and Boeing Vertol is an American medium-lift tandem rotor transport helicopter powered by twin turboshaft aircraft engines. The CH-46 Sea Knight began its military service during the Vietnam War, carrying troops and cargo to and from Navy ships in the China Sea. The CH-46 Sea Knight had flown 75,000 hours on 180,000 missions, as well as 8,700 missions rescuing wounded Marines and had carried 500,000 troops. The maiden flight of the CH-46 Sea Knight took place on August 1962 and it went into service in 1964. Primary users were the US Marine Corps, US State Department, Swedish Air Force and Japan. There were approx. 524 CH-46 Sea Knight produced between 1962 and 1971. The CH-46 Sea Knight retired from its service in 2004 to the United States Navy and in 2015 to the United States Marine Corps.
