Hunter Johnston, our Children and Family Ministry Director shares some of her favorite works and the stories behind them. She will explore the newfound wealth of the Dutch during their Golden Age (1590-1715) focusing on overindulgence and opulence. Throughout the evening she will discuss the history of still life painting and how it evolved from simpler images to ‘pronkstilleven’ (ostentatious still life) works.
You will immediately notice that banquet and breakfast tables drip with countless items of wealth, but hide a deeper symbolism for the viewer. In just one hour, we will explore these incredible works of ‘vanitas’ art and discuss the fleetingness of life!
