How to make Vietnamese Fresh Spring Roll (GOI CUON)
Vietnamese Spring Rolls (aka Goi Cuon or Fresh Rolls) are one of my favorite appetizers when I go out to eat but did you know they are super easy to make? I’ll show you how in this video. To start off with you need dried rice vermicelli noodles and rice paper wrappers. Then for the filling I’m using BBQ pork and shrimp, fresh Thai basil and also some salad greens. I just used the salad I had in my fridge so I didn’t have to go out and buy anything special.
Sometimes restaurants use both pork and shrimp but since I’m making this at home, I can do it any way I like it. When using shrimp make sure the orange side is facing down on the rice paper when you start. I use BBQ pork that is thicker than you’d typically get from a restaurant. Don’t worry if your rolls aren’t perfect because it will probably take some practice to roll these tightly. I know I’ve wasted a few sheets of rice paper in the beginning. And also don’t try to over stuff the rice paper. It’ll be harder to roll and the wrapper might rip. And don’t soak the rice paper too long. That was my mistake when I first started making spring rolls. Soaking them too long makes them soft and weak and will tear while rolling.
Because I put more meat into mine, I can make a meal out of 3 goi cuon. Of course these have to be dipped in peanut sauce when eating them but I’ll show you that recipe in another video. The peanut sauce is very simple to make. These fresh spring rolls came out tasting fantastic and even better than what I get at restaurants. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.
