PHOTOGRAVURES & MUSIC OF AMERICAN INDIGENOUS CULTURE
The indigenous cultures native to various parts of North America in the mid-1800's are beautifully displayed along with a beautiful sound track made up of all indigenous music, vocalists and instruments.
A photogravure is done on a metal plate. The emulsion is more concentrated and thicker than on paper. It was the old method for making high resolution images. From North to South, and from East to West, back and forth across North America, this photographer knew how to gain the respect and cooperation from the chiefs and people of many different Native American Nations. Photogravures from the mid-Nineteenth Century are shown without commentary while the beautiful indigenous aboriginal music plays.
Many of the indigenous wise men, known to the West as "Medicine Men", were tribal leaders who used shamanistic methods of instruction. The many animal and bird outfits and masks were shamanistic apparel. Leather-work and weaving skills are displayed in many of these images, as well as the entire image of what life once was like and will never be again. One may see the nobility and sadness in all of their eyes as if they knew a legendary time was passing into history.
These tough, resilient, creative, beautiful people revered and understood nature and they are a great credit to the human species.
The loss of their ways, their knowledge, and their habitat, may illustrate a modern behavior pattern that may yet destroy all of humanity.
This video has provided me with many valued spiritual experiences.
