Searching maps and online resources for camping spots on the rim of the Grand Canyon that were off-road accessible, we found one that went right to the top of our bucket list. That's when the months of planning started and our adventure was set in motion to Whitemore Overlook in the Grand Canyon - Parashant National Monument, Arizona.
Driving the planned eight-hour route of BLM dirt roads through this remote area was an experience that varied from a well-maintained and graded dirt road to loose rocky clay inclines on the edge of steep cliffs. This made for a long day, but the payoff was the opportunity to reach Whitmore Overlook and take in the view of the Colorado River as you stood on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Camping on the rim was an experience like no other and one we would greatly recommend.
