In 10 provinces in Turkey, 49 thousand 589 people, including 6 thousand 807 foreign nationals, died and more than 80 thousand people were injured. At least 13.5 million people and 4 million buildings were affected.
Approximately 11,302 buildings collapsed in 10 provinces across Turkey. Many buildings collapsed in Adıyaman and Diyarbakır, where a shopping mall collapsed. Diyarbakır Castle, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, was also partially destroyed.
At least 3,508 people were killed and 3,749 injured in Syria. The Syrian Ministry of Health recorded over 1,570 deaths and 1,449 injuries due to the earthquake in the provinces of Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia, Hama and Tartus. Hundreds of people died in the cities of Aleppo, Hama and Latakia. At least 1,910 people were killed and 2,200 injured in rebel-held areas.
In Atme village, 11 people died and many residents were buried. In addition, in many villages such as Atarib, Besnia, Jindires, Maland, Salqin and Sarmada, civilians were trapped under the rubble for hours due to the lack of rescue teams. At least 150 people were killed and 350 injured in Latakia. 125 people were trapped inside after an eight-storey building collapsed in Hama. At least 48 people died in Hama; 43 bodies were recovered from the collapsed building. An additional 75 people were injured.
