City officials and Detroit LGBTQ+ leaders will kick off Pride Month with a news conference and Pride flag raising in Spirit Plaza. We will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pride celebrations in Detroit.
Pride Month is a time to commemorate all the struggles and harm inflicted on the LGBTQ+ community, as well as a time to celebrate the progress and impact that LGBTQ+ people have made. The City of Detroit is taking this opportunity to raise our Pride Flag and show our unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community. Detroit is devoted to creating an inclusive and safe city for everyone.
Raising a flag and announcing the start of Pride Month does not adequately reflect the City’s fervent commitment to the LGBTQ+ community. This year, the city is announcing several important actions that we have taken to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ employees.
