Próspero Bisquertt (1881-1959) was a Chilean Composer.
Before becoming involved with music professionally, Bisquertt had studied engineering at the University of Chile and also became famous as a painter of certain prestige, exhibiting some of his canvases in the Salon de Santiago. After graduating as a civil engineer from the University of Chile, he began his work activities as an official of the General Directorate of Internal Taxes, an institution where he worked between 1913 and 1923. Later, he devoted himself to freely exercising his profession, investing his capital in money related to mining associated with Don Ricardo Lyon in tin mines in Bolivia.
Prospero Bisquertt had no academic musical training, since he learned in a self-taught way, which does not detract from any merit. In fact, his first public foray into music was the premiere of his opera Sayeda in 1929; It was so successful that the government headed by then President Carlos Ibáñez del Campo granted him financing, with the purpose of perfecting his knowledge and promoting his creations in Paris, France.
He was one of the founders of the National Association of Composers, established in 1936. His compositions encompass a plurality of musical genres, which made him the recipient of the National Art Prize, in 1954.
