Toronto Mayor John Tory, the city's medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa and fire chief Matthew Pegg held a briefing Friday on the city's latest information and response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the briefing, it was announced that all in-person Canada Day events have been cancelled as part of the ongoing municipal response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Events were cancelled at the following areas of Toronto: Ashbridge’s Bay, Centennial Park, Milliken Park, Stan Wadlow Park, Weston Lions Park, Mel Lastman Square, East York (annual parade) and Scarborough (annual party).
In addition, Tory said since traffic volumes in the city are down between 45 and 66 per cent due to stay-at-home orders, there's an "unprecedented opportunity" to "accelerate" as many of the city's major planned construction projects as possible.
