Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is working to make India a green economy by eliminating over 36 crore petrol and diesel vehicles. He plans to lower the GST on hybrid vehicles and encourage the use of biofuels.
Gadkari believes this shift will save money on fuel imports, which can then improve the lives of farmers, create jobs, and make villages more prosperous.
Gadkari is promoting biofuels and has introduced a proposal to reduce GST on hybrid and flex-engine vehicles. He's also interested in hydrogen as a long-term fuel option and is using a hydrogen-powered car himself.
Major companies like Bajaj and Tata Motors are developing vehicles that run on alternative fuels, including India's first CNG bike and hydrogen trucks.
To support electric mobility, a new Rs 500 crore scheme will provide financial incentives for the purchase of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers until July 31, 2024.
This scheme aims to boost the use of electric vehicles and help develop India's EV manufacturing ecosystem.
