Virginia Tech’s Office for Inclusion and Diversity hosted its 10th annual Faculty Women of Color (FWCA) in the Academy conference April 1-3, 2022, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Virginia. While the program was held in person, there was also a virtual option to attend sessions. Keynote speakers featured: Renowned author and cultural critic Roxane Gay; Norma V. Cantú, a law professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and distinguished attorney who was appointed by President Biden in 2021 to serve as the chair of the United States Commission on Civil Rights, and Nikole Hannah-Jones, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter covering racial injustice for The New York Times and creator of the landmark 1619 Project. Hannah-Jones, who is a MacArthur Genius recipient, is known for reshaping national conversations around education reform.
