Schools are finding it difficult to continue to excite students about STEM subjects as they advance through junior high and high school. This is contributing to the lack of skilled employees to meet the workforce demands in STEM-related fields, now and in the future. Women and minorities, in particular, are underrepresented in the STEM fields, even though there are well-paying jobs available in these fields as well as the promise of future job opportunities. By loaning its TM3000 scanning electron microscope to schools across the country, Hitachi High Technologies America, Inc. is hoping to inspire younger students, including girls and minority students, to pursue careers in the sciences.
