In this video, Signature Tyer Spencer Higa discusses his famous trout nymph pattern: Higa's SOS. He invented this nymph at a time when he was fishing a lot of midge patterns and pheasant tail nymph patterns but didn't want to have to choose between the two of them. So, he created a nymph that was the best of both worlds. Available in sizes 16-20 this is an excellent nymph for any rivers that have midges, mayflies or both. You can euro nymph with it, dry dropper, or indicator fish. It works well with all three tactics! We have fished this fly for seasons, and it's truly one of our must-have nymphs when we're trout fishing. If you're not sure what to fish on any given day, tie this on.
