An Indian Air Force helicopter airlifted Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra from a flood-hit village. The minister was rescued after being stranded while visiting Kotra village in Datia district. The SDRF boat carrying Mishra developed a glitch after a tree suddenly fell on it. Mishra visited the area following information about stranded people on the roof of a house. Officials said that the IAF chopper rescued Mishra & nine other stranded villagers. Officials added that IAF personnel lowered a rope by which Mishra was safely pulled. Mishra earlier visited other villages to supervise rescue ops, oversee relief arrangements. Madhya Pradesh has been reeling under severe floods triggered by incessant rains. According to officials, more than 1,250 villages were affected by the inundation. So far, over 6,000 people have been evacuated by disaster management officials. Nearly 2,000 people are still estimated to be stranded in different parts of state.
