The Rolex GMT Master II is a legendary watch with a prolific history of design variants. From the earliest Bakelite bezels to left-handed models, the GMT-Master has seen it all. So it’s no wonder that the favorites of some are doomed to discontinuation. Among those most missed is the iconic “Coke” bezel, with its contrast-laden black and red aluminum bezel insert — named for the well-known cola its colors evoke.
Nearly two decades on since its untimely disappearance, the “Coke” GMT-Master II remains a fixture in the minds of collectors. There is not a year that goes by that collectors don’t hope (perhaps in vain) for its re-introduction to the Rolex catalog.
Today, Tim looks at a classic 5-digit example, along with a number of other spectacular pieces in this edition of Weekend Watches.
Watches featured on this edition of Weekend Watches:
• Rolex GMT-Master II “Coke”
• Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph
• Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton
• Angelus Chronodate
• Armin Strom Pure Resonance
• Ressence Type 1 Slim
• Grönefeld 1941 Remontoire
• Blancpain Leman Tourbillon Grande Date
