One of the Mega Projects in the world that were never completed or completed but was considered useless .
Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang, North Korea, is one of the tallest unoccupied buildings in the world. Construction on the "Hotel of Doom" began in 1987 and has stopped and started several times. One side of the 1,080-foot building has been outfitted with LED screens used for light shows.
Nicknamed “Hotel of Doom” or “The Cursed Hotel”, North Korea's Ryugyong Hotel holds the record of being the World's Largest Unoccupied Building.
The 105-storey building is 1083 feet tall and has 3000 rooms. The construction of this massive, eerie structure began in 1987, and until now, 35 years after, has not welcomed even a single guest.
In 1992, after the building had reached its full architectural height, work was halted due to the economic crisis in North Korea following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Japanese newspapers estimated the cost of construction was $750 million, consuming 2 percent of North Korea's GDP
The hotel was originally built as part of preparations for the country's 1992 World Festival of Youth and Students, and probably for a show of superiority over South Korea. Although the exterior now has a modern finish, the interior is far from completion.
In my opinion, the Ryugyong Hotel is not just useless but is also a waste of money, land and time. Comment on what you think about this project.
