The tidal race between the Islands of Lunga and Scarba, on a spring (flood) tide the sea races through this narrow channel. Also known as little corryvreckan it produces quite a noise!
On a flood tide with a low pressure system it can become impassable even with a powerful engine, there is very little room for manoeuvre as you pass through.
This was filmed on a neap tide as the water returns back through the channel, on a flood (spring) tide as the water is going from left to right it produces a different effect.
Popular amongst divers for drift diving at slack water, apparently the seabed is rich in fauna.
It's called the Grey Dogs because from a certain angle one of the small hills on Scarba has the shape of a dogs head.
