Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Convert Formulas to Values in 3 Keystrokes (No Mouse Needed!).
Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this episode, we're going to show you how to use Excel without the mouse. That's right, you can navigate and perform tasks in Excel using only your keyboard. This is a great skill to have, especially if you want to increase your efficiency and speed while working with large amounts of data.
But before we dive into the tutorial, I have a quiz for you. Can you convert a formula to values using only three keystrokes? That's the challenge that David from California presented to us, and we're going to show you the solution in this video. But first, let me tell you the story behind this quiz.
Recently, I reconnected with my former manager from 1988, Mark. He was the one who hired me out of the IT department and kickstarted my career in Excel. During a visit to Chicago, where Mark now works, we had a little competition with his three sharpest Excel guys. They challenged me to a game of "stump MrExcel" and if they could stump me, they would win an expensive dinner. Of course, I couldn't resist the challenge and I tried to impress them with my favorite Excel tricks. But they had a rule - I couldn't use the mouse at all. And that's when I realized that you don't need the mouse to use Excel efficiently.
So, let's get back to the quiz. How can you convert a formula to values in three keystrokes? Well, there are a few ways to do it, and we're going to show you two methods in this video. The first one involves using the F2 key and the F9 key, while the second one is a one-line macro created by one of our viewers, Greg. And of course, we'll also show you my favorite way to convert formulas to values using the mouse.
I want to give a shout-out to Mark and his Excel team for inspiring this video, and to Dave for the cool Excel tip. And who knows, maybe we should declare a "national use Excel without the mouse day" and see how fast everyone can work without reaching for the mouse. So, if you want to increase your speed and efficiency in Excel, keep watching and learn how to use Excel without the mouse. Thanks for stopping by, and we'll see you in the next netcast from MrExcel.
