Leadership and Micromanagement – Why Micromanaging as a Leader is Destructive to You and Your Team!
We welcome everybody to join Chris Igwe on today’s leadership training video where we discuss leadership and micromanagement. One of the most important topics that we will chat about is why micromanaging as a leader is destructive to you and your team.
First off, I would like to say that micromanaging as a leader can be catastrophic for your team and company. Why is this you ask? Well there are many reasons why leadership and micromanagement don’t go together. Let us discuss further.
When you micromanage in leadership it gives off a lot of negative emotions to the person you are trying to control. If you have given a staff member something to do, don’t be on their case the whole time to see how they are doing or if they completed it. It is sort of undermining the person and it also shows them that you don’t trust their work.
Another thing that micromanaging as a leader does is lower your team’s confidence. They start to feel inadequate when their boss is always peaking over their shoulder. You need to remember that you asked these individuals to complete a task, so you should let them finish it before butting in.
Leadership and micromanagement don’t work well together and is known to impact productivity in the office. You as a leader need to work on your leadership skills so that you can remain calm when the urge to micromanage as a leader rears its ugly head.
One of the main reasons why micromanaging as a leader is destructive to you and your team is that it creates tension in the work place. It’s not nice for staff to feel like they need to walk on egg shells when coming into the office.
You need to be aware that micromanagement has no place in leadership or in life for that matter. There needs to come a time when you let leadership and micromanagement go their separate ways for the better of your business.
Resolving your micromanaging as a leader tendency is crucial if you want to your team and leadership to flourish. Start of by asking yourself why you do it. Really dig deep here and find the answer.
Is it because you are a little insecure? Do you doubt the person? How do you feel about your leadership and micromanagement tendency?
All these questions including others need to be answered truthfully by you and you alone. Once you have those answers, it’s time to put a plan together to separate leadership and micromanagement.
If you don’t get micromanaging as a leader out of your leadership style it could cause a lot of chaos in the work place. Employee may get frustrated with you and could end up leaving the company due to being emotionally drained by you micromanaging as a leader.
Not only that but you and your team’s health suffer when you bring leadership and micromanagement together. Constant daily pressure and nagging damages the immune system in turn lowering the health of both you and staff.
The last terrible thing that combining leadership and micromanagement does is make you lose your credibility as a leader.
This is a huge problem because if you don’t have credibility in your leadership traits how can you possibly succeed as a leader?
So, as you can see micromanagement has no place in leadership and if you are guilty of it I suggest you get rid of that bad habit right away. It can tarnish your name which you have work so hard to achieve, so don’t ever let leadership and micromanagement come together again.
