The health ministry has confirmed that two cases of the Omicron variant have been reported in India. The two cases have been reported from Karnataka, while one of the patients is 66, the other is 46-years-old. One is a South Africa returnee while the other has no known history of travel. Both tested for Covid on November 11 and 20. The genome sequencing of their samples confirmed the Omicron strain. On the other hand, the US also reported its first case on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Centre's new screening rules for international travellers coming to India, too, kicked off on the same day.
