The Soviet Union today will come to aid the Spanish Republicans in their civil war, seeing it as a great opportunity to expand their influence the Red Army will mobilize and be sent to the Iberian peninsula to try and crush the Nationalist rebellion.

Along the way the influence the USSR has over Republicans will quickly grow, slowly making them more aligned to Soviet interests than Spanish, this state of affairs cannot last so eventually something will have to give and the Second Republic will undergo a massive transformation.
