Penn Medicine thoracic surgeon, Dr. Taine T.V. Pechet, discusses lung cancer diagnosis and treatment with Matt Birnholz, MD of ReachMD at Updates for the PCP, a Penn Medicine-sponsored event.
Dr. Pechet covers hot topics in lung cancer, including the basic outlines for screening (who, when, why and how) and nuances, the benefits of CT scans over x-ray for early detection, and when to refer to the thoracic oncology intake program and pre-surgical assessment parameters.
Dr. Pechet also discusses the Lung Cancer Program’s alert system for primary care providers: “Similar to breast cancer findings on mammography, at Penn, we’ve developed a warning sign for the ordering of the primary care physicians that gives a classification scheme... it comes along with specific recommendations about when to follow up.”
Dr. Pechet is Chief of Surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
