The sound difference between the Royer R-121 and R-122MKII microphones are subtle. The r-121 is a passive ribbon microphone versus the R-122MKII which is an active ribbon microphone. The R-122MKII requires phantom power and adds about 12dB of gain. The ribbon element is identical in both microphones.
