On February 26, 2012, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was visiting with his dad Tracy in Sanford, Florida.
Martin and his son were staying in a gated townhouse community outside of Orlando. That night, Trayvon Martin went out to grab a bag of Skittles and a can of Arizona Iced Tea from a nearby 7-Eleven. When Martin didn’t return home that night, his dad was worried and called missing persons the next day trying to find his son and called 911.
After police asked Martin to describe his son, they eventually showed him a picture of Trayvon from the night before being gunned down by George Zimmerman.
Martin, co-founder of the Trayvon Martin Foundation, joins Charles Blow on “Prime” to discuss his son’s life and legacy.
All this and more on “Prime.”
