A few weeks ago Dehancer asked me to try out their Davinci Resolve OFX Plugin for realistic film emulation. After using the plugin on several projects I've made this review.
I've been very impressed with the plugin, it's very easy to use, has a large range of film stocks and makes it easy to get cinematic looking footage. In this case, film emulation really can give you the "film look". So far my favourite film stock has been Agfacolor XRS 200.
I've tried to include a variety of Red Komodo test footage in this video, even a few C100 mark ii shots as well. There's night time and daytime footage, modern and vintage lenses and even a few interior shots as well as a bit of slow motion.
Most of the footage in this video was shot on a Red Komodo in 6k Raw with a Viltrox speed booster. For lenses, I used a Sigma Art 24-105mm f4 art,, Sigma Art 18-35mm f1.8 Art, Helios 44m 58mm f2, Vivitar 28mm f2.8 and a 35mm Optomax Auto f2.8. All of these lenses were used with a K and F VND.
Everything was edited and graded in Davinci Resolve, and I use Blender to animated the 3D screenshots which were rendered with GradedBlue Renderfarm.
