Mating and courtship amongst many birds are private, but while at the National Aviary of Colombia we got to see this pair of Red-shouldered Macaws doing their mating ritual in the open.
Red-shouldered Macaws are relatively small macaws but large parrots in general.
Many birds will mate to reinforce their pairing bonds, and in this case I think that is what they were doing.
Macaws usually nest in dead trees or cavities in large trees.
