This is the full, live dedication speech of Disneyland, right when it opened for a press preview day & TV special on July 17, 1955, from Walt Disney himself (Creator & Cofounder of the Walt Disney Company). Although it is not rare by any means, it is still absolutely amazing to hear the iconic audio of Walt's official dedication in 1955. Firstly, Art Linkletter, a TV and radio personality at the time, proceeds to have Walt step forward to read Disneyland's dedication. Walt's dedication reads:
To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past…and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America…with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.
Of course, this is a wonderful dedication for a wonderful theme park, the very first of its kind and scale in the world. The concept of age reliving their fond memories, while youth having an outlet to enjoy and build a better future is absolutely beautiful. And being dedicated to the ideals, dreams, & hard facts that created America is very inspiring. When Walt said "With the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.", I truly think he was right in that it absolutely has brought so much of that and so much more to many, many people over the last 67 years. I am so grateful that Walt, Roy, and all the others involved did everything they could to get Disneyland open right on time on July 17, and I am so happy to report that for the first time in a while, I have been able to celebrate this anniversary on time with all of you as well, through this audio and several other audio and videos hopefully throughout today and tomorrow, July 17-18, 2022. As some Disney theme park fans may know, the official opening date was actually July 18, because July 17 was actually a press preview day. Either way, it's amazing that they managed to build this amazing place in just one year. I hope you enjoy this classic audio, and happy 67th birthday to Disneyland!
I do not own any of the audio or most of the images used in this video. All of the audio and most of the images are owned by Disney.
