LUTHER VANDROSS tribute.
Song: “Superstar”(with “Until You Come Back To Me”
Who can forget his hits, “NEVER TOO MUCH”, “ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART, “A HOUSE IS NOT A HOME”, “HERE AND NOW”, “DANCE WITH MY FATHER”? And love duets such as “Endless Love” with Maria Carey, and “Closer I Get To You” with Beyonce? Yes, he is my all time favorite International male vocalist, Luther Ronzoni Vandross, Jr. a.k.a. Luther Vandross.
He just celebrated his birthday (April 20, 1951), and would have turned 69 years old 16 days ago. So just indulge me to give my International musical hero this tribute moment.
Today, I’d like to share with you a song which Luther recorded in 1983, which M (as we, his friends, and the industry fondly call him) Moy Ortiz, asked me to perform when we did (as part of The CompanY) our Valentine show at the Mandarin Oriental Manila in the late 90’s, “The CompanY Sings The CarpenterS”, which was an all Carpenters repertoire. Thank you M, for making me learn this song. Listening to his recording repeatedly, and getting amazed by his vocal “affectations”(used positively ), made me realize how much I admire him as a vocalist.
Karen and Richard Carpenters recorded this in 1971 from their album CARPENTERS produced by A&M Records, track #6 to be exact. Originally, the song was recorded by the singers/songwriters duo of Delaney and Bonnie in 1969 and released by Atlantic Records. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. For entertainment purposes only. GOD BLESS US ALL TODAY ☺
