Adderall is a combination medication used to treat certain disorders, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It works by changing the amounts of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. Amphetamine/dextroamphetamine belongs to a class of drugs known as CNS stimulants. It helps increase attention, focus, and control behavior problems in patients with hyperactivity. It may also help patients with organization tasks and improve listening skills. This drug is also used to treat a sleeping disorder known as Narcolepsy, by assisting patients to stay awake during the day. It should not be used to treat tiredness or to hold off sleep in people who do not have a sleep disorder. Adderall is classified as a Schedule-II controlled substance, categorized by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
