The Giant Bullfrog (Pyxicephalus adspersus) is a Juggernaut amongst amphibians. The largest African frog. The Giant Bullfrog can live up to 20 years of age and the large males are fearsome indeed.
Its rarely seen mating behaviour matches its dominating size.
Some of the Bullfrogs show injuries from this aggressive behaviour. The mating process lasts for only three to four days during which the males with mate repeatedly with the much smaller females. The males then remain with the tadpoles to ensure they are safe and even digs channels to ensure there is water.
