In this White Room guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play Eric Clapton's guitar parts to this Cream classic.
The tuning is standard tuning.
The intro to Cream's "White Room" is instantly recognizable and contains some really cool vocal and guitar harmonies. I will spend quite a bit of time dissecting this section of the song, demonstrating multiple ways to play it depending on how many guitarists are available in your group.
In live performances, Cream generally just played the underlying chords during the intro section (G min, F maj, D min and C maj) while singing the harmony lines over it.
From there we have the verse section where Jack Bruce is singing. This is a cool arpeggiated guitar riff that moves pretty fast especially towards the end of the riff where Clapton plays the 5th of each chord leading into the main chord. This happens when playing the last two chords in the progression (Bb and C) and also when moving back to the D chord to start the progression over by quickly hitting it's 5th, the open A string, before starting the riff over.
Eric Clapton's falsetto section uses some basic chords with a wah pedal added in the mix.
Speaking of the wah pedal, it is used throughout pretty much the entire guitar solo. Instead of going through all of Clapton's solos, I thought it would be better to show you exactly how he created it so that you can improvise one of your own just like he does for every performance, He never plays the solo the same way twice.
I hope you guys enjoy learning this classic rock masterpiece! #whiteroomguitarlesson #cream #ericclapton #guitarcovers
