Please watch in 1080p HD resolution! I visited the famous old-fashioned town of Shibamata on the very edge of Tokyo, coincidentally right across the river from Matsudo, where I live!
Shibamata is an Edo-style town that dates back hundreds of years, with the famous Taishakuten Temple, which dates back to the 15th century. It has a pine tree that is over 500 years old and AMAZING woodcarving panels on the outside of one of the temple buildings. The temple is also home to a really beautiful garden courtyard. You can enjoy the temple for free, but it does cost 400 Yen to visit the garden and woodcarving wall area.
The old Shibamata walking street has many old shops selling traditional snacks and foods. The architecture is so beautiful and definitely takes you back in time.
I ate Kusa Dango, which is mochi with mugwort topped with sweet red bean, Shiodora, which is dorayaki pancake with salted cream inside, and Negima, which is chicken and spring onion yakitori.
I tried to cross the Edo river using a boat at Yagiri no watashi, but it was closed for the winter season. It is the only surviving river crossing still in use in Tokyo.
I hope that you enjoyed this stream!
