In this tutorial, I'll show you show to create a vertical video from a horizontal video by using Auto ReFrame. In other words, converting the landscape video into a portrait video. In this way, the edges of the frame will be cut out. This is different from rotating a video. For example, if you got a video of 1920 x 1080, it'll change to a video of 1080 x 1920. That means 1920 - 1080 = 840 will be shorter from the sides. Portrait videos are great for mobile phone platforms such as Instagram Reels, IGTV, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube Short, etc.
Auto Reframe helps to automatically create a vertical video and at the same time following the object frame by frame. That is in addition to changing to portrait, Premiere Pro would also follow the object. In this example, the object is a person walking in the street. So, by creating the portrait sequence, each frame is analyzed and so that the person would be in the center of the video.
