Sermon - Sunday, May 12, 2024 - The Rev. Canon Michael Gilton
Sent Part Two - To Overcome Suffering
The witness of the Bible is that the problems we experience are not generally the consequences of the circumstances of our lives. The circumstances are usually what reveal the underlying problem. Simply put, the troubles we have in our lives are largely due to the existing troubles within us. At our core, we are unstable - when we are at war within ourselves we are at war with others.
There is one thing that shores up our inner stability and gives us grace - Christian joy. What does Jesus teach us about the inevitability of Christian joy? How is it continual? And how does Christian joy come from discipline?
