Scholastic Education Virtual Workshop Series presents Math Place
Author and National Math Consultant Diane Stang
This practical workshop explains the changes to the new math curriculum in Grades 1 to 3, and highlights how Math Place meets the goals, vision, and expectations. Math Place is rich in creative lessons that include a variety of high-impact instructional approaches, math talks, and spatial thinking activities. Time is spent on showing how new elements of the curriculum are met, including developing social-emotional learning skills throughout the year, incorporating coding skills, and building the mathematical modelling
process into lessons. Since research indicates that spatial reasoning is critical to math success, there are many ready-to-use visual activities, resources, and ‘spatial talks,’ which are engaging and fun! This workshop also highlights how to use the resource for ongoing assessment and differentiated instruction.
Are you dealing with the challenges of implementing Ontario’s new math curriculum? Math Place is a comprehensive program that completely aligns with the 2020 curriculum. You can use it as your entire program or as a resource to supplement and enhance your existing math program. Math Place also serves as a professional learning resource since each lesson has a section to explain the math and how it relates to the big ideas.
