We have a crew of firefighters helping out on the #PlatteRiverFire, but their job there is a bit unusual. West Metro's dive team is responsible for getting firefighters closer to the line, by ferrying people and equipment across the Platte River. The fire is burning in very steep, hard to access country. Taking handcrews across the river means they don't have a long hike in, and they don't have to chance wading across the river.
While the deepest channel is around five feet, the water is running deceptively fast. One stumble, and you and your hand tool and other equipment will be swept downstream.
Another important thing to consider- it's not comfortable fighting fire when your clothes and boots are wet and sloppy.
"Whatever it takes to serve."
