This is a recreation of the song "Aprite le finestre" by Franca Raimondi. This is the first entry from Italy 🇮🇹 in the 1956 contest and the first Italian entry overall. The clip is from the 1956 Sanremo Music Festival, which was (and still is) used to select the Italian entrants for Eurovision.
The 1956 Eurovision Song Contest was the first edition of the annual contest, held on the 24th of May. It was held in the Teatro Kursaal in Lugano, Switzerland 🇨🇭 and was hosted by Swiss presenter and commentator, Lohengrin Filipello, who would be the contest's only solo male host. Seven countries competed, with 2 songs for each, meaning 14 songs competed for the Grand Prix. The winner was Lys Assia, who represented Switzerland 🇨🇭 with her song "Refrain." However, the remaining results are unknown, as they were never shown to the public. It's also unknown why this edition became lost, as there's no clear answer or even mention on how it got lost, however, a recent behind the scenes clip from RAI confirms it was broadcast and presumably taped.
