Over the past decade, an estimated 15 to 25% of Billboard charting songs contained samples. Samples are an integral part of the art form we know as hip hop, and are widely used in other music genres, including pop, reggaeton, and EDM.
Clearly, sampling has gone mainstream, and yet, as many Disc Makers artists can attest to, it is exceedingly difficult for independent artists to get their samples cleared.
In this week’s video (above) I review the licensing requirement for samples in your recordings, and discuss how many independent artists handle their releases that contain samples.
