"All Quiet on the Western Front" is for sure one of the best war movies of the last decade. It tells above all a profound story about the absurdity of war and the human tragedy that turned out to be World War I, which counted millions of pointless deaths.
The three-note sound that characterize the war theme is also found aboundantly in the score, but played in a slower tempo and solemn/sorrowful tone which gives it a more distinct melodic identity. The soundtrack is enriched by some musical variety, featuring cello solos, soft female choir, harpsichord and ambient sounds - but the slow three-note theme is always reprised in some way in the following montage I made here. This for me is the main theme of the score, a collection of the more emotionally resontant and moving parts of the movie.
