As part of the SESAR3 JU project ITARO (Integrated TMA, Airport and Runway Operations), an integrated operational concept (IOC) to green flight operations whilst retaining a high capacity has been evaluated through Real-Time Simulations (RTS) on NARSIM, the NLR ATM Research Simulator. The demonstrations consisted of several SESAR solutions combined inside the TMA environment of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol that improve efficiency, both operationally as well as environmentally.

The IOC combines RNP-based approach operations with Interval Management (IM) and environmentally favourable Continuous Descent Operations (CDOs). This integration was expanded to final approach for Time-Based Separation (TBS), while applying a minimum aircraft separation derivation via the Optimised Runway Delivery (ORD) tool involving Runway Occupancy Time (ROT) spacing and reduced separation minima such as Minimum Radar Separation (MRS) 2.5/2.0 NM and RECAT-EU-PWS (Pair-Wise Separation).

This research aims to identify gaps to deployment as well as to enable greener flights and improved punctuality inside the TMA of Schiphol Airport.
