The formidable talents of Annie Lennox and Al Green together for a song? Oh yeah, I'm there. Their cover of "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" was the perfect Christmas season single from a 1988 Christmas movie that was a cleverly humorous interpolation of the Dickens Christmas classic that Bill Murray starred in. It is my all time favorite Christmas movie, it has heart and magic...Karen Allen and Carol Kane..if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it! The tune was originally a hit by Jackie DeShannon during the summer of 1969, peaking at #4 on the Hot100. Annie and Al's version peaked at #9 in early 1989 and #29 disco becoming her first charting solo single on both of those charts, but not her first Christmas song for either. As part of Eurythmics, their icy fresh recording of "Winter Wonderland" was included on the first "A Very Special Christmas" compilation LP. David A Stewart handled the production here laying a solid and engaging mix behind the two voices. Al Green had confined himself to gospel and religious soul music for years and agreed to do the duet as it had this uplifting message of love. The movie ends with a spontaneous version done by the cast and Annie and Al finish with their version over the credits.
