(Russian: Государственный гимн СССР) The State Anthem of the USSR (1977 Version: Omitted and changed most references to Stalin that were found in the 1944 version) was adopted in 1944 as a replacement for the previous state anthem which was the Internationale. The Anthem's Lyrics of 1944 and 1970 were both written by Sergey Mikhalkov and the music was composed by Alexander Alexandrov.
After the dissolution of the USSR, the anthem was dropped until it was reinstated in 2000 by the newly appointed President Putin with revised lyrics but the same melody. Currently the State Hymn of the USSR is illegal to be performed in public in Ukraine and Latvia as of 2015.
