This video is designed to be a basic rundown of the U.S. medical interpreting codes of ethics, the three primary organizations that established them (aka the "Big 3") and the ethical decision-making process as outlined by the California Healthcare Interpreting Association.
Being an international interpreting practice community with members from all over the world, InterpreMed recognizes that not all of our members will be operating from the same codes of ethics. As such, we decided to put together this video to serve as a basic primer on medical interpreting ethics as outlined by the U.S. organizations' (NCIHC, IMIA, CHIA) codes of ethics which are required knowledge for both national medical interpretation certification exams (CCHI & NBCMI).
:warning:IMPORTANT NOTE: Even if you are a medical interpreter operating outside of the United States, if you are providing interpretation services to U.S. healthcare clients, you will likely be expected to abide by these codes of ethics.
