We're LIVE with INSTRUMENTHEAD: REVEALED at Instrumenthead Live in Nashville, TN.
“This is where musicians’ heads are really at,” says photographer Michael Weintrob, who photographed 369 musicians for his 2017 book Instrumenthead with their signature instruments covering their heads, for some of the most unusual portraits in modern music. The book won the Independent Book Publisher’s Award for Most Outstanding Design.
On June 22, Weintrob will launch the preorder / crowdfunding campaign for his sister book Instrumenthead:
Revealed, featuring “unmasked” portraits of the same 369 musicians with their own style and artistry. The preorder campaign will last June 22 through July 22, 2021, and books will be published and available for the holiday season. $3 of every book will benefit the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic. Founded by a coalition of music advocates in 1998, the New Orleans’ Musicians’ Clinic is the first medical clinic for musicians, performing artists and cultural workers in the US.
“When you mix art and music like you’ve done here it’s just phenomenal. It doesn’t get any better than this,” once said the great Allen Toussaint, who posed with his TK
“I want to do my part to inspire people to learn about new music and the artists who create it,” adds Weintrob, who photographed the unmasked portraits during the original Instrumenthead sessions. “I love to connect and break down walls with my photography. Everyone has the ability to be a kid again. This book is really special, because we’re unmasking the original photos. The book reflects the new energy this year.”
To celebrate the campaign launch, Weintrob has programmed the free, virtual Revealed Concert Series, beginning June 22 @ 7pm CT with Steve Poltz and wrapping July 21 with Peter Levin and Marcus King. Filmed at Weintrob’s Nashville studio, the series can be viewed on Instrumentheadlive.com, Volume.com and select shows on nugs.net.
