This was taken using the interval-picture function of Canon Hackers' Development Kit (CHDK) free firmware upgrade for the Canon PowerShot cameras. I set it to take a picture every 5 seconds, but it for some reason ended up taking a picture every 10 seconds. (That's why the clouds move so very fast when the frames were patched together at 24 fps in post.)
Once again, this (to me anyway) is an amazing thing that free third-party software allows cheap people like me to take cool timelapses and long exposures. CHDK (for Canon p&s) and Magic Lantern (for Canon DSLR's) are awesome!
