What's the Difference Between Slurs and Ties?
Curved lines are one of the more striking visual elements in music notation, and like any musical articulation, there are different versions that do different things. As their name suggests, "ties" connect (or tie) two notes together to combine their values into a longer length. Meanwhile, slurs tell us to play a phrase legato, or smooth and connected, and are helpful in general for identifying phrases.
